Presenting your work in a clear and professional manner is an important skill. Often this is done through  presentation software such as Microsoft PowerPoint. There are a few skills that can help you to do a better job and produce more professional looking results.

Here are TEN TOP TIPS:

  1. Keep it Simple
  2. Limit bullet points & text
  3. Limit transitions & builds (animation)
  4. Use high-quality graphics
  5. Have a consistent visual theme
  6. Use appropriate charts
  7. Use colour well
  8. Choose your fonts carefully
  9. Use video or audio where appropriate (can be hard to access on the school network)
  10. Spend time in the slide sorter

  • To create a professional standard PowerPoint with a consistent use of design and style
  • To utilize more advanced features of the software

 

Objectives

Use a wide range of software features:

  • Different types of slides (Title, Title and Content etc etc)
  • Use of built in designs
  • Use of Styles (Title, Heading, paragraph etc)
  • Use of Action buttons for create navigation system
  • Insert Hyperlinks to
    • place in this document
    • External files
  • Simple bullet points on screen
  • Use of NOTES section to contain presenters text
  • Master Slide – edit original design
  • Use of appropriate views
  • Hide / Unhide slides
  • Alignment (L,C,R,J, guidelines and snap to grid)
  • Transitions – one simple, subtle transition throughout (apply to all)
  • Animations – content appearing on screen (all at once, paragraph, with previous, on click etc)

 

Content:

Your task is to create a multipage PowerPoint presentation that tells the viewer about a particular country. Your teacher will assign a country for each member of your class.

Keep the basic information on the screen – you should be prepared to present your presentation to your class members at the end of the project.

Your presentation should include information about:

  • The flag
  • Where in the world it is
  • Language(s) spoken
  • Famous landmarks
  • Capital city
  • Rivers
  • Famous people from the country
  • Major cities
  • Size of population
  • Well known products (e.g. France and wine)
